July 12 Event at San Diego Central Library to Feature World-Renowned Molecular Biologist to Discuss Cannabis Impact on Cancer Cells
SAN DIEGO (PRWEB) July 05, 2018
Prime Harvest, LLC, a science-driven, vertically integrated cannabis company with operations throughout California, announced today that it is sponsoring the Community Alliance Program’s (CAP) second Cannabis 4 the Cause event of the year, “Cannabis Vs. Cancer,” on Thursday, July 12, 2018. Attendees will hear from leading cannabinoid researchers about the science and potential of cannabinoids to inhibit cancer cell growth.
“Cannabis Vs. Cancer” will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. at San Diego Central Library in downtown San Diego, California and is free of charge and open to the public. Expert speakers will include Dr. Cristina Sánchez, a molecular biologist who has focused her attention on new cannabinoid receptors and their possible involvement in cannabinoid antitumoral action in breast cancer and other type of tumors; Tammie Thomas, the original founder of Imperial Valley Pharms and the creator of several branded medicinal products; and Helen Palomino, a licensed Clinical social worker and CEO of nonprofit The Cancer Center of the Desert.
Dr. Sánchez is among a team of biologists and neuroscientists in Madrid, Spain at Complutense University of Madrid who has been studying the effects of THC, a cannabis compound, on cancer tumors for over a decade. Her team has discovered that THC effectively kills tumors in both cultured cells and animal models.
In 2018, an estimated 1,735,350 new cases of cancer will be diagnosed in the United States and 609,640 people will die from the disease, according to National Cancer Institute. American Cancer Society recognizes that THC can help with common side effects of cancer chemotherapy, such as pain and nausea, and says “certain cannabinoids may slow growth and reduce spread of some forms of cancer,” according to information on the health organization’s website.
“As California continues to roll out its newly regulated adult use market and overhaul its existing medical cannabis use market, we identified a need for increased education about cannabinoid science and the impact cannabis may have on cancer cells and cancer treatment,” said E. Duane Alexander, CEO and Founder of Prime Harvest, LLC. “We assembled a great team of speakers to share their insight and knowledge with the residents of San Diego. We look forward to an engaging and informative evening.”
