Woman injured during cops’ firing practice

An elderly woman sustained injuries after allegedly being hit by a bullet during a firing practice by policemen at the Police Training College here on Wednesday morning.

The victim, identified as Badani Mishra (65) of nearby Saradhapur village, was admitted to the Angul District Headquarters Hospital in a critical condition.

According to the woman’s family sources, the incident took place at around 7.30 am while the firing practice of jawans was going on at the firing range near the village.

A bullet, suspected to be a wrongly-targeted one, reportedly hit the wall of the woman’s house and further struck her chest injuring her grievously. Hearing the woman’s screams, her family members rescued her and admitted her to the hospital. Her condition ws stated to be stable now, sources said.

Police have started investigation into the incident.
