HYDERABAD: Continuous and wide footpaths for seamless pedestrian movement, street furniture and electrical fittings from a bygone era interspersed with sculptures and art work will form the Heritage Precinct spanning about 5 km covering five metro stations.  There will also be theme-based public plazas focusing on lighting to restore the magnificent look of grand structures throughout the stretch. The Fateh Maidan Clock Tower, for instance, adjacent to the police control room will be highlighted. Obstacles will be removed and there will be subdued focus lighting.

Hyderabad Metro Rail Managing Director NVS Reddy  inspected the stretch, along with engineers and a team of architects on Wednesday and decided on the innovative aspects to be included through the stretch covering five metro stations  from the State Assembly, Nampally, Gandhi Bhavan, Osmania Medical College and MGBS.

The stretch between OMC station and Rangmahal junctions, which have the metro tracks of corridor-II passing over corridor-I, in a double decker style pillar structure, would be developed as a tourist spot. The old glory of Jambagh market will be also revived and it will be integrated with another major restoration work which will be undertaken in Sultan Bazar and OMC station areas.

The skywalks connecting MGBS Metro station with MGBS bus depot on one side and the Old City area on Chaderghat side will have state-of-the-art facilities and the metro pillars, portals and walls in this area and in Nampally will be decorated with paintings and sculptures reflecting the rich history and culture of Hyderabad. The Nampally Metro station will be connected with Nampally Railway station, about 200 metres away, through a covered walkway and railing. Largescale encroachments and illegal dumping of debris in Musi on Chaderghat side will be removed.
