Across 2017 and 2018, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have had all the Grand Slams, with Novak Djokovic falling off the radar. Deliberately choosing which tournaments to play is the key game-plan of these top players.
Federer’s strategy of moving forward after serving and Nadal’s reliance on his backhand baseline are what have helped them dominate the show. Wimbledon is of course the icing on the tennis cake and it remains to be seen who will be the king of tennis (‘Sport’ page, “Kvitova suffers shock first round exit”, July 4).
