AMBALA: A major fire broke out in the transfer repair workshop of Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) substation at Dhulkote on Tuesday. The reason for the fire is still unknown. Besides, a delay of 30 minutes in controlling it led to its increase. A huge amount of reusable scrap and two electricity feeders were gutted in the fire. Four fire brigades were immediately rushed to the spot, which struggled to control the fire.
Sukhbir Singh, executive engineer, Dhulkote workshop, said, “There was no casualty and there will be no obstruction in the power supply to the public. Two of our electricity feeders were burnt, which only obstructed power supply for a few hours for a certain area, but the overall supply was normal. Initially, there was a delay of 30 minutes for the fire brigades to come, but once they arrived the firefighters worked really hard to take control of the situation.”

Superintending Engineer, store & workshop, Dhulkote, R K Khanna said, “From the initial analysis the reason of fire seems to be a short circuit as it had been raining since night. So, there is a possibility of some short circuits, which might have occurred at the workshop. The fire has been controlled with the help of fire department, which had deployed more than 10 fire brigades to control the situation. One JCB machine was also put on work to demolish the wall of the workshop to help the fire brigades reach the fire spot.”

“The losses in the fire are still to be calculated and the department will be taking stock of the situation,” added Khanna.
