He will hold talks with all parties

Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy on Tuesday assured the House of arriving at a consensus on whether to seek Statehood or Special Category status for Puducherry after members expressed divergent views on the subject.

Winding up the debate on the motion of thanks to the Lt. Governor for her address to the House, Mr. Narayanasamy said he would hold discussions with all political parties on the issue and try to arrive at a consensus.

The Chief Minister said the government had to overcome hurdles in executing projects for administrative problems and reduced financial assistance from Centre.

The projects were getting delayed as Lt Governor had adopted a practice of seeking repeated clarification on a particular subject.

“When a file is sent for her approval, a particular clarification will be sought. Once we give a reply, there will be another clarification. Why can’t she send all the queries at one time,” he said.

Schemes delayed

The procedure adopted by the Lt. Governor could only create a delay and not stop the government from implementing schemes. He cited the instance of farm loan waiver.

He listed the achievements of the government in the last two years.

Participating in the debate, AIADMK leader A. Anbalagan said the dual power centres in the Union Territory had brought complete administrative paralysis.

Senior officials were taking orders only from the Lt. Governor making the Ministry powerless.

“The Lt. Governor had made the Ministry powerless and hence people are knocking at the doors of Raj Nivas to get their grievances redressed. The need of the hour was to seek Statehood for the Union Territory and get special category status,” he said.

The House adjourned the day after passing the motion of thanks.
