Rajnath honours 7 Hry cops for winning medals

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday honored seven sportspersons of Haryana Police with cash reward, who have won 14 medals in the 17th World Police and Fire Games.

The sportspersons were honored at a felicitation function held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. Haryana Director General of Police, BS Sandhu was also present on this occasion.

These games were held in Los Angeles, California, USA from August 7 to 16, 2017, said a spokesman of Haryana Police.

As many as 106 members of Indian Police contingent had participated in these games including seven from Haryana Police who bagged 8 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze medals in three events. The felicitation ceremony was organized by All India Police Sports Control Board (AIPSCB) to honour the medal winners.

The spokesman said that DGP BS Sandhu has also congratulated these sportspersons saying that they have brought laurels to the Haryana Police in particular and state in general by winning 14 medals in wresting, boxing and swimming events.

The DGP also encouraged the police sportspersons to double the medals tally in the ensuing World Police and Fire Games to be held in China in year 2019.

Those who were honored included Inspectors Puneet Rana, and Dinesh Kumar, Sub Inspectors, Niramal Devi and Kavita, Head Constables Promila Devi, Santosh Kumari and Sandeep. While Puneet Rana had won 7 medals including 2 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze in swimming, 2 medals including one each of gold and bronze were bagged by Santosh Kumari in wrestling. All other Haryana police sportspersons had bagged one gold medal in wresting and boxing events.

The DGPs of different states and senior officials of AIPSCB also attended the felicitation ceremony.
