CM orders facelift to Sido-Kanhu park

One of the major ‘Green Covers’ situated in the heart of the capital city will soon be revamped for the city residents. Chief Minister Raghubar Das during the surprise inspection of Sido- Kanhu Park on Tuesday directed the authorities to beautify this ‘green lung’ ensuring all amenities. The CM asked the officials of Department of Forest and Environment to restore this park showcasing the rich legacy of the tribal customs.

Spread over an area of 9.5 acres of land, Sido-Kanhu Park was developed in 2005 with prime attractions like flower garden and Children Park, artificial water and bridge, pathways, statues etc. Now, further adding on to some of the unique components, a glimpse of Santhali ethnicity – Art and Culture will be depicted on the walls of Sido-Kanhu Park to enlighten the mind of leisure buffs.

“Make proper arrangements so that people can know more elaborately about Santhali culture as public frequently visit park with the family members,” said the CM to the officials during the inspection. Suggestions like decking up the park with the statues of martyrs Sido-Kanhu, detailed description of legends of the tribal land through different artworks on walls, carrying out plantation drive were also given by the CM.

Furthermore, in order to glorify the legacy of Santhali culture through this prime recreational site, the CM said that the local public familiar with tribal customs, dialect must be appointed as the tourist guides here. Also, orders of repairing the solar trains and swings, lying defunct since long were given to the senior officials.

Municipal Commissioner, Shaantanu Agrahari has been asked to take up proper initiatives to clean the park. Sanjay Kumar, Head — Department of Forest said that the State government would spend Rs. 1 crore to clean up the park.

Other components of this beautification project include ‘Light and Sound show’ which will be initiated soon. In addition to this, the officials have been instructed to make a water ecosystem inside the park to add on to the green ambiance. Besides this, the officials have been asked to begin the process of initiating a cafeteria inside the park, so that the visitors could spend some quality time here with their families. Secretary of Pollution Control Board cum Conservator of Forest Rajiv Lochan Bakshi and other officials were present during the inspection along with the senior personnel of Ranchi Municipal Corporation.
