Residents seek widening of B.M. Road in Sakleshpur town

Petitions related to grant of land and survey of agricultural land were the highest among those received by Deputy Commissioner Rohini Sindhuri during her meeting to redress public grievances here on Wednesday.

Hundreds of people from different villages of the taluk participated in the meeting and submitted their petitions.

Ms. Sindhuri began the exercise of holding public grievances redress meetings in taluk centres this week. Many farmers complained to the DC that they had submitted an application for the survey of their land long back, but it was not done. A few petitioners alleged that their applications for grant of land were rejected without proper reasons. There were a couple of applicants alleging corruption in the Revenue Department and irregularities in sanction of houses and land.

Residents of Sakleshpur urged the DC to take steps necessary for the widening of B.M. Road in the town. For years, the residents had been demanding a wide road, to ease traffic and avoid accidents. Farooq, a member of Geleyara Balaga in the town, said many people have died in the accidents on the road. “Earlier, the proposal for widening the road was accepted and the survey was also done. A good number of shopkeepers had agreed to give up their land for widening. However, the project did not proceed further,” he said.

Narayana Alva, another resident of the town, said there was no library in the town. He also demanded that the administration demolish the old taluk office building, which is in a dilapidated state and utilise the same place for parking. A few coffee planters urged the administration to ensure offices of Revenue, Land Survey are located at one place. They also wanted a system in the taluk centre to renew gun licence. “As per the rule, we cannot carry our arms out of the taluk. But for renewal of licence we have to carry them to the district centre, which is against the law,” said Krishnamurthy, a planter.

Ms. Sindhuri told the applicants that individual petitions regarding survey of land and grant of land would be handled by the respective officers in a timely manner. The petitions concerned for improving basic infrastructure facilities would be looked into. “We are keeping a record of all petitions received here. The status of applications would be reviewed regularly,” she said.
