The Delhi Police on Tuesday questioned Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s private secretary (PS) Bibhav Kumar and a Public Works Department official in connection with the alleged assault on Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash in February.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Harendra Singh said, “The probe is ongoing. During investigation, PS to CM Bibhav Kumar was re-examined on certain issues,” he said.
Mr. Kumar and PWD Junior Engineer Yogesh, were questioned for about an hour-and-a-half around 12 p.m., a senior police officer said.
The Forensic Science Laboratory report on the CCTV footage stated that six cameras were deliberately put on non-recording mode, the officer added.
“There were total 21 cameras in the premises out of which 14 were recording the CCTV footage and seven were not. It was found one of the seven was not working but the other six were working but not recording the footage in the DVR,” the officer said.
Cameras running late
The police had found that the cameras were running 40 minutes 42 seconds late.
“It has been found to be a deliberate attempt because the cameras were put on non-recording mode,” he added.
After the Chief Minister, it is Mr. Kumar’s responsibility to check whether the cameras are operating as they should and he was called for this, said sources.
“The PWD official was called to ask if any official complaint was made from Mr. Kejriwal’s residence about the six cameras for not recording video but the official denied receiving any complaint,” the officer said.
When confronted with the questions, the police said, Mr. Kumar “feigned ignorance”.
DVR seized from CM
The police had entered Mr. Kejriwal’s residence on February 23 and seized the DVR for the intervening night of February 19-20, the night of the alleged assault.
