A Hindi play ‘Babuji’ that narrates about struggles of an artist and how an artist is adherent to fulfill his dream was staged at Shaheed Bhavan auditorium on Tuesday. It is an adaptation of the original story by Mithileshwar. The script of the play was written by Vibhanshu Vaibhav. The play was the adaptation is based on the Nautanki style. Babuji is based on the North Indian folk art of Nautanki, and the entire lifestyle of Babuji ‘Lallan Singh’ is completely attached with dance and music. His feelings, his inspirations, his pain, his joy, his agony, everything is linked with the music.

Lallan Singh aka Babuji is man of theatres. Since childhood he dreams of a nautanki theatre troupe. He is very innocent and is loyal towards achieving his dream cum aim. His family (the unsupportive one of course) does not like his work. But, Babuji wants to attain perfection in his musical prayer. Disregarded and dishonoured by his own family and society, he establishes himself independently in music. Many years later he gets an invitation to perform a Nautanki show at a marriage - the invitation is from his daugther's in-laws to be, for his daughter's marriage. He goes ahead and accepts the invitation. The real struggle begins when it is not accepted by his family at all. The society tanuts him, but he comes out of it and how he deals with it formed rest of the story.

The play was brilliantly performed on stage leaving the audience enthralled. The nautanki style which was opted for the play was done beautifully by the artists. Till the end of the play the tehatre lovers were glued to their seats and watched the climax of the play.
