District Collector B. Lakshmikantham said on Tuesday non-resident Indians (NRIs) from Krishna district had come forward to financially help the district in his recent tour to the United States.

Mr. Lakshmikantham told the media that he had met Telugu NRIs in seven States.

He said the NRIs, particularly from the district, were keen extending support.

He said 240 digital classrooms would be established in the district schools with the support of the Janmabhoomi Foundation through which the NRIs would donate funds.

Also, with the matching grant from the Foundation, all the 970 villages in the district would be developed in a phased manner.

Sanitation in all villages was the priority and waste to energy plants would be set up, he said.

The official said the ‘Intintiki Kulai’ (Drinking water to every household) project worth ₹90 crore was at the tendering stage and work would begin on July 10. About 7.3 lakh households would get drinking water supply, he said.
