Minister for Power R. Kamalakannan on Tuesday rubbished the claim made by the Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi that the Electricity Department had recovered ₹51 crore from defaulters.
Making a short intervention during the debate on motion of thanks to the Lt. Governor for her address to the House, the Minister said: “Ms. Bedi had enacted a drama by making the claim.” He said the collection for May and June was ₹109 crore and for June and July ₹112 crore. The department had collected ₹39 lakh in the ensuing three days after Ms. Bedi’s inspected the department on June 22. The department had spent ₹4 lakh a day for the advertisement naming power bill defaulters.
