Congress leader Dinesh Gundu Rao was in Sringeri on Wednesday when he received the information that he had been appointed president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC). “I had just come out after taking the blessings from the Sringeri seer when I got a call from AICC general secretary K.C. Venugopal informing me that I have been chosen for the post,” Mr. Rao told reporters here.
He and his family members were on a visit to Sringeri on the day. “Today is my wife’s birthday. We had come to Sringeri to take the blessings of the seer,” he said.
On being chosen to head the KPCC, Mr. Rao said he was confident of leading the party ahead of the parliamentary elections. “A coalition government is in power in the State. And, we have to get ready for the parliamentary elections. The party has chosen me to head the State unit at a crucial time. I am confident that I will do my best,” he said.
