CHANDIGARH: Honking on the premises of hospitals will soon cost you Rs 1,000. Police have decided to issue
challans for the offence after holding awareness drives in and around hospitals for 15 days. The decision was taken during a meeting held at the police headquarters on Monday. Traffic marshals and cops wouldbedeployed at hospitals to check the violations.
Yashpal Vinayak, DSP (traffic), UT, said police would issue challans for honking at Government Multi-specialty Hospital, Sector 16, Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, and PGI after 15 days. Sharma said police would make residents aware about the no-honking rule through social media, newspapers and boards about. Later, school, colleges and university would also be covered, Yashpal said, adding that everybody knows honking near schools, colleges and hospitals is prohibited, but no motorists follow the guidelines.
Police also have a reason to implement the rule first at hospitals. “As a large number of people visit hospitals, issuing challans here will spread the message of faster across the Tricity,” officials said. The DSP said warning boards regarding the
fine have already been put at the entrance of the city.
