5 held for terrorising murder witness: Om murder case

Those accused in the case are Sanjay Kumar Sahoo alias Bhajana, Dhala Samanta brothers and their other associates.

CUTTACK:  Chauliaganj police on Monday night arrested five persons for terrorising the witness and trying to restrain him from deposing in a court against those accused in the sensational Manoj Mallick alias Dipu and Om Prakash Swain alias Om murder case. Those accused in the case are Sanjay Kumar Sahoo alias Bhajana, Dhala Samanta brothers and their other associates.

The arrested are Madan Mohan Sahoo alias Madan (43), Alok Prusty (22), Santosh Behera alias Santu(19), Balaram Barik alias Balia (24) of Chauliaganj Thatari Sahi and Sashikant Khandei alias Dani (32) of Kaligali under Lalbag police limits.

Cuttack DCP Akhilesvar Singh said, District and Sessions Court, Cuttack had summoned Dipu’s father Adweita Mallick, a vital witness in his son’s murder, to depose in court on July 2. To stop Mallick, Bajana mobilised his elder brother and gangster Madan to terrorise and restrain the former from deposing in the court.

As per the orders, the accused threatened Dipu’s brother Saroj in full public view and asked him to stop his father from deposing in the court. The arrested have confessed to having terrorized Saroj on the order of Bhajana. A special police team is conducting raids at different places to nab other accused involved in the case, the DCP added.
