Five youth were killed when a car collided with a cement-laden truck coming in the opposite direction near Keregalapalya in Madhugiri taluk of Tumakuru district on Wednesday.
The accident took place around 5.15 p.m., said the police. The Koratagere-Madhugiri road was blocked for around three hours after the accident.
The men — all in their 20s — were employees of a factory in Bengaluru. They were on their way to their friend’s engagement ceremony. The friend was on a motorcycle behind the car.
“All five were killed on the spot. Cranes had to be used to extricate the bodies. The truck driver has been arrested,” said the police.
The deceased have been identified as Murali, 24, Manjunath, 20, Dinesh, 22, Ramamohan, 22, and Shivaprasad, 23.
A case has been registered in Madhugiri police station.
