The State government on Wednesday informed the Kerala High Court that concrete evidence was yet to emerge in the investigation into the missing of 22-year-old Jesna Maria James of Ranni.

The government also told the court that earnest efforts were being made by the police to find out the missing woman.

The government made these submissions when a petition filed by Jais John James, brother of Jesna, and K.M. Abhijith, State president, Kerala Student Union (KSU), seeking a CBI probe into the case was taken up for hearing.

The government further submitted that as part of the investigation, about 300 people were questioned and 150 statements recorded. The details of around one lakh calls were analysed. All the information, including the ones which had turned out to be erroneous and baseless, were verified.

According to the petitioners, Jesna, a student of St. Dominic’s College, Kanjirappally, has been missing since March 22 after she left for her aunt’s house at Punchavayal, near Mundakkayam. Despite the constitution of a special investigation team, no headway had been made in the investigation, the petitioners alleged.
