The South African Twitterverse is trying to heat up with a flame war aimed at the cold front running through the country with its icy grip.

According to the South African Weather Service, the cold snap intensely felt across most of the country is expected to last the whole week, so now is the time to invest in some blankets and a bulk box of rooibos tea.

PICS:

The coldest towns at the moment are Vryburg in the North West and Sutherland in Northern Cape, both dropping to -7°C, while the town with the highest maximum temperatures in the country is Phalaborwa in usually-warm Limpopo, barely making it above the 20°C line.

Snow has been covering the Western Cape mountains and parts of Northern Cape, and even if you're not close to any of the spots, you're definitely feeling the chill in your bones. Matroosberg still has a lot of snow keeping all the school holidayers busy on their snow hunts.

South Africans looking to rather run away from cold however is fuelling their body warmth with a few good chuckles on social media about Mother Nature giving us the cold shoulder.
