Mangaluru: In a shocking incident, a man has been charged with sexually assaulting his own daughter. The heinous incident took place at Puchchemogeru in Moodbidri.
The police, who identified the accused as Vikram Pillai, originally from Kerala, has arrested him under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act.

According to the police, Pillai had married a woman hailing from Jharkhand and had a 14-year-old daughter. Pillai was employed at a mill and resided in Puchchemegoru with his family.

According to Pillai’s neighbours, his daughter had been sleeping outside the house since the last few days. The neighbours brought the issue to the notice of the local police. However, as even the police failed to extract any information from her, the girl was counselled at a child protection centre here, during which she revealed that her father had sexually assaulted her.

Pillai was subsequently arrested based on her statement. However, the accused has claimed to be innocent, and sought to undergo a DNA test to prove his innocence.
