LUDHIANA : In order to ensure cleanliness in the villages, the
district administration has decided to carry out a special cleaning driving of 723 ponds in Ludhiana under the mission ‘Tandrust Punjab’. Apart from this, the drive also includes plantation and developing of parks near the ponds.
Divulging the details, the additional deputy commissioner (ADC) (Development) Shena Aggarwal said Ludhiana is committed towards effective implementation of mission ‘Tandrust Punjab’ and 12 government departments are working tirelessly to take the district ahead of others in the state.
She said out of 723 ponds, the work has already started for 201 ponds. She added that the pond’s water is being discharged to the paddy fields according to demand of the farmers which also helps in enhancing fertility.
Aggarwal said the saplings will be planted on the embankments of the ponds. The administration is also trying to have divisions in the ponds with
clean water to start fish farming, she revealed. Moreover, the abandoned locations near the ponds will also be developed as parks which will be maintained by village panchayats and local residents. Aggarwal solicited support of all in this cause to make the mission a huge success.
