Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh begins two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir

SRINAGAR: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, along with a high-level delegation, arrived on a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday to review situation and held talks on security issues with Governor N N Vohra. They were received at the airport by Advisors to the Governor, B B Vyas, K Vijay Kumar and Khurshid Ahmad Ganai and other State officials.

After his arrival, Rajnath held discussions with Governor N N Vohra at Raj Bhavan, here. A Rajbhavan spokesman said various important issues relating to security management, implementation of development programmes and positive engagement of youth in the State were discussed during the meeting.

Sources said Governor also briefed Rajnath about the security and law and order situation in the State and measures taken to tackle militancy. "Vohra told him that 'Operation All Out' is going on and troops are conducting active militancy operations and are also on high alert along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB) in the State," they said.

According to sources, Rajnath was briefed by Governor about the killing of three yatris during flash flood and landslides at Baltal area in central Kashmir's Ganderbal last evening after heavy rains. He informed Rajnath about the tight security measures and the deployment of over 40,000 security personnel for yatris’ safety.

Rajnath and Doval, according to sources, are likely to visit Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas tomorrow to have darshan of the Shiv Ling.

The Home Minister would chair high-level security review meeting in Srinagar tomorrow to take the stake of the security situation in the State. NSA Ajit Doval, Governor N N Vohra, Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba, Union Joint Secretary J&K, Gyanesh Kumar and top civil, police, security and intelligence officials.
