Hyderabad High Court on Wednesday directed Telangana Home Secretary to secure instructions over the alleged detention of CPI-ML (New Democracy) party regional secretary A. Narayana Swamy alias Madhu by Telangana police following a habeas corpus petition filed by his wife A. Padma.
Justice C.V. Nagarjuna Reddy heard the petition after the V. Raghunath, counsel for Ms. Padma, moved lunch motion. He posted the matter to Monday for further hearing. Mr. Raghunath said that Mr. Swamy was travelling in an autorickshaw from Kothapet to Habsiguda when a group of policemen in plainclothes intercepted it at L.B. Nagar.
They bundled Swamy into another vehicle and left the place. The lawyer presented to the court that the petitioner contacted police through the organisation but the latter declined to divulge details about the detention.
Writ dismissed
Hyderabad High Court on Wednesday dismissed a writ petition seeking to declare illegal the inclusion of Banjaras (Lambadis and Sugalis) in the Scheduled Tribes. The order was passed by a Division Bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice J. Uma Devi. The Bench said, however, the petitioner can still approach the Government of India since it had included Banjaras in the list of Scheduled Tribes.
Security cover
Former minister Nagam Janardhan Reddy of Nagar Kurnool district filed a writ petition before Hyderabad High Court on Wednesday seeking direction to Telangana government to revoke withdrawal of security cover for him. The petitioner prayed that he be provided security guards (1+1) as was done earlier stating that the order of Nagar Kurnool SP withdrawing security cover for him was illegal.
