BJP slams Rahul for sex harassment cases within Congress

NEW DELHI: Countering Congress chief Rahul Gandhi’s recent tweet sharing a report which said New Delhi was unsafe for women, BJP on Tuesday highlighted several incidents of sexual harassment within the rival party, including a recent complaint filed by a woman from the social media team of Congress against her colleagues.

BJP also cited the case against NSUI chief Fairoz Khan, who has been accused of seeking sexual favours for posts in the organisation.

“There is a long history of sexual harassment cases in Congress but no action was taken against the accused in most cases. I request Delhi Police to register an FIR and take action against the accused,” BJP spokesperson Meenakshi Lekhi said referring to the complaint of a woman working with the social media team of Congress who has accused her colleague Chirag Patnaik of sexual harassment.

“NSUI president Fairoz Khan has also been accused of sexual harassment. The police should explain under whose pressure they are not taking action,” Lekhi said. She slammed reports portraying India in a bad light and claimed that “far worse” cases were happening abroad and New York and not New Delhi was the world’s “rape capital”.

“Even Rahul Gandhi’s sister Priyanka was not safe,” Lekhi claimed, saying she was harassed by Congress workers in April during a march to India Gate to protest against the Kathua rape and murder case. Lekhi termed as “fake” the Thomson Reuters Foundation survey that found India the world’s most dangerous country for women.
