Search for missing two men feared bogged in remote WA outback

A land search is under way for two WA men in a remote stretch of country near the South Australian border after they were reported overdue for their arrival at Blackstone community.

Police said the men, believed to be Marcus Byers, 41, and George Hotker, 52, were driving from Esperance to Alice Springs in a white Toyota Landcruiser with a tray back and may have become bogged on the Trans Access Road near Loongana.

Heavy rain fell in the area recently, and last contact was made with the men on Sunday when they told a friend they were heading north from Loongana to Blackstone.

Police said concerns were held for the men’s welfare as it was not known how much food or water they had with them.

Police have notified surrounding pastoral stations, and a search plane from the Australian Maritime Safety Authority is set to join the search.
