Thailand cave rescue

more-in

The story of coordinated international efforts to rescue the coach and 12 boys of an under-16 soccer team in Thailand who are trapped in a deep mountain cave is riveting. One is deeply humbled by the efforts to work out a rescue plan undeterred by the monsoon, the flooded cave and the its massive and mysterious structure, with many hidden dangers. It makes you pause especially when lives have become less precious in a materialistic world (Page 1, “Thai divers find 12 boys, coach alive” and ‘World’ page, “Relatives elated after Thai boys found alive”, both July 3).

The story is sensational and breathtaking. As reported by many sections in the media, it could still take some time for a rescue plan to take effect. But the extent of the rescue operations conducted so far speak of the power of the human will, endurance and sagacity during times of extreme adversities.
