Govt asks PWD’s EEs to check conditions of roads

The government has directed all the executive engineers of the public works department to visit their designated areas to check the conditions of roads for subsidence, potholes, surface breaks and fallen trees and submit a weekly report to the principal chief engineer.

PWD Minister Ramakrishna ‘Sudin’ Dhavalikar had convened a meeting on Wednesday to review the conditions of the roads in the state and to work out an action plan for repairing the same.

The meeting, which was chaired by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, was attended by the principal chief engineer, the chief engineer and executive engineers of the PWD.

Parrikar stressed upon good interdepartmental coordination for undertaking repair works, a press statement released by the Chief Minister’s Office said.

At the meeting, the PWD officials were directed to keep all types of asphalt standby and   undertake repair works when the areas witness dry spells.

The executive engineers have also been directed to use their powers to take remedial action and ensure the quality of works.

Instructions have also been given to the PWD to hold monthly meetings with the district collectors to discuss road digging cases and the mandatory issuance of no-objection certificates by the
authorities.
