Chronicle Reporter, Bhopal, Talented sailing athlete of Madhya Pradesh State Water Sports Academy, Shikhar Garg will represent India at the Laser Youth World Under-21 Championship going to be held in Poland.
Shikhar is the only athlete from Madhya Pradesh in this 2-member team. Before the championship, Shikhar participated in the sailing training camp in Canada from 27th to 30th June 2018.
Yashodhara Raje Scindia, the Minister of Sports and Youth Welfare of the state, and Dr. S.L. Thaosen, the Director of Sports and Youth Welfare congratulated Shikhar and encouraged him to exhibit his best performance at the Laser Youth World Under-21 Championship.
Shikhar Garg won a silver medal at the India International Regatta Optimist Class in 2009. Likewise, he made India and the state proud by winning a bronze and a silver medal at the International Sailing Regatta Championship (Doha, Qatar) 2010 and 2011 respectively.
He bagged bronze at the India International Regatta ASAF Youth Cup Series Laser 4.7 Class in 2014. Also, He was the winner of the ASAF Youth Cup Series Final 2015. Shikhar has won 10 medals with 6 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze medals in the national competitions. Shikhar was awarded the Best Youngest Sailor and the Youngest Sailor in the Class awards in 2008 and 2009 respectively.
