Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Wednesday assured the group of ruling councillors of Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) that all projects which are in the pipeline will be expedited and all files will be cleared within one month’s time.

On Wednesday evening, the newly-elected MMC chairperson Ryan Braganza along with other 17 ruling councillors paid a courtesy visit to Chief minister Manohar Parrikar at the Secretariat.

Braganza informed Parrikar about various issues pertaining to Mapusa. During the meeting, it was decided to expedite the new projects like bus stand project, market redevelopment project, Tar bridge and Town planning scheme. The issues like water woes, streetlights, sewage project, cattle menace, flooding and others were discussed in detail.

With regards to the streetlight issue, Parrikar was informed that all the streetlights in Mapusa are yet to be replaced with LEDs and even the maintenance issue was also raised as redressal system is not “effective”. Parrikar said that a meeting of all Bardez MLAs along with secretary of electricity will be convened over electricity problem soon.

When contacted, Braganza informed, “During our visit, various issues pertaining to Mapusa including pending projects like bus stand, market renovation, construction of the new bridge at Tar was discussed with Chief Minster and he has given us positive response.”

“Chief Minister has assured to take up all the issues which we have raised before him. He also spoke to officials of concerned departments in front of us to sort out issues at the earliest and we are confident that in next two to three months, things will be in place,” he said.

Senior councillor Sandip Falari informed, “This meeting was scheduled in presence of our MLA Francis D’Souza but as ‘Babush’ was supposed to return on Monday and was not able to come, he asked us to go ahead and meet the Chief Minister. We will hold another round of meeting with the Chief Minister in the presence of the Urban Development Minister.”
