BATHINDA: Hours after a woman in
Punjab lost her husband and two daughters after their house roof collapsed due to
heavy rain, she gave birth to twin sons on Wednesday.
The woman had survived the mishap as she had walked out of the room moments before the collapse. On Tuesday, the family β Amritpal Singh (35), his nine-month pregnant wife Tejinderpal Kaur and their daughters Manseerat (6) and Agmanjot (4) β was sleeping on the roof of their house in Muktsar district.
Around 11pm, it began raining and they came downstairs to sleep in the room. Close to midnight, Tejinderpal stepped out to drink water when the roof suddenly caved in, burying the three.
The trio was declared brought dead at a hospital.
βThe house roof was laid with rusted girders. It was also heavily loaded, all of which suddenly caved in during the rains,β said a neighbour.
After the death of her husband and daughters, Tejinderpal went into labour and delivered twin sons at a private hospital around 9am on Wednesday.
