ITDA brings out a primer to make maths teaching effective and interesting

In a new initiative aimed at dispelling maths phobia and enabling students of the Tribal Welfare Ashram Schools to grasp fundamental mathematical concepts with ease, the Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA), Bhadrachalam, has brought out a primer titled Cheyutha to make teaching of mathematics effective and interesting.

Aptly titled Cheyutha, the 146-page primer with the tagline Each step with you encapsulates the basic mathematical concepts of geometry, algebra and the number system in an effective way so as to improve teaching-learning outcomes.

The primer has been designed by a team of subject experts led by Tejavath Ramlal, a mathematics teacher at TW Ashram High School at Narayanaraopeta in Dummugudem mandal, under the supervision of ITDA Project Officer Pamela Satpathy.

The new initiative gains prominence in the backdrop of the dismal performance of several students of TW Ashram High Schools in mathematics in the SSC public exams held in 2017-18.

A staggering number of 695 students of the TW educational institutions in the district failed in mathematics in the previous SSC public exams.

Commissioner of Tribal Welfare Christina Z. Chongthu formally released the primer in Hyderabad on Saturday.

The ITDA has drawn up a plan to circulate the copies to all the Tribal Welfare Ashram Schools soon for the benefit of students from classes V to X.

Basic concepts

Cheyutha, the brainchild of Ms. Satpathy, will serve as a ready reckoner to teach basic mathematical concepts in an effective manner, says Mr. Ramlal, one of the key members of the team that composed the primer.

The booklet written in Telugu will help teachers excel in teaching mathematical concepts while students can easily grasp the essence of the concepts and score well in the subject.
