KOCHI: Maharaja's college council that met on Tuesday decided to suspend two students arrested for their alleged involvement in the murder of second year BSc student Abhimanyu on Monday.

The two are Mohammed JI (21), third year BA (Arabic) student, and Farooq Amani (19) who took admission this academic year in BA (Economics).

"The police informed us about these two students and we decided to suspend them pending inquiry," said college principal K N Krishnakumar.

Maharaja's college that was closed for two days after the death of Abhimanyu will reopen on Wednesday. However. the first- year classes will start from next Monday.

The college council decided to hold a condolence meet in the campus on Wednesday morning. Also the teachers will hold counselling session for the students since their morale is down after the murder of Abhimanyu.

"The teaching and non-teaching staff decide to collect money to help Abhimanyu's family," said principal.

Meanwhile, though Kerala Students Union (KSU) had called for state-wide strike of educational institutions on Wednesday they have decided to exempt Maharaja's college from the strike in support of the condolence meet planned in the campus for Abhimanyu.

"We want justice for Abhimanyu and if we don't allow the condolence meet to happen in the campus, it would be insult to him," said KSU Ernakulam district president Aloshious Xavier.
