Regina Martyrum High School, Assolna made a spectacular comeback after being down one goal to win the inaugural Subroto Mukherjee Cup U-17 Inter-School Football match against St Mary’s High School, Varca 2-1 at artificial grounds, Fatorda on Wednesday.

While striker Amresh Pawar levelled the score for Regina Martyrum in the 65th minute, attacking medio Nash Diniz scored the match winner to take Regina Martyrum into the second round.

The seventy minute duel between the two teams was fought very closely in which St Mary’s shot into lead in the 40th minute of the second session with Wilson B. shot beating the Regina Martyrum keeper Frazer Cardozo.

Both the sessions were fought ferociously for superemacy with the first half remaining blank during which time, St.Mary’s striker Wilson saw his efforts missing the mark twice. Midway into the first half, Wilson almost scored with a curling 30 yard shot which hit the crosss bar.

The second session was fast paced with both the teams trying hard to find the mark and St Mary’s their account when Wilson ran solo through the entire Regina Martyrum defence on a counter offensive and neatly bulged the ball to the far corner of the nets.

Regina Martyrum produced some dangerous forays, but the strong defensive wall of St.Mary’s stood their ground and breathed easy only to see the team lose due to lack of concentration in the last five minutes of play. The ease cost St Mary’s dearly as a totally charged up Regina Martyrum striker Amresh Pawar on receiving a neat pass from Nash Diniz, sent a rasping drive to beat the Varca based school keeper Frazer Cardozo in the 65th minute.

Within the next minute, Nash Diniz scored the match winner for Regina Martyrum with an angular shot to snatch a stunning win.
