Jana Chaitanya Vedika has demanded that Information Commissioners should be appointed in Telugu States without further delay and the State governments should also appoint Lokayukta and Human Rights Commission Chairmen.
Addressing a media conference here on Wednesday, former Home Secretary K. Padmanabhaiah and vedika State president V. Lakshmana Reddy said that the Information Act was crucial at a time bank scams, bogus videos, political corruption was rampant and Central and State governments should make good use of the Act. If the demonetisation impact should be known to people, then the Information Commission would play a vital role, they said.
Mr. Padmanabhaiah said that Information Commission was non-functional in States like Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, West Bengal, Karnataka and Gujarat and even in the Central Information Commission, the appointment of four commissioners was yet to be done.
Former Information Commissioner of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh P. Vijayababu said that the Tirumala temple should also be brought under the purview of the Information Commission. Institutions like Lok Pal, Lokayukta, Human Rights Commission, Information Commission were being watered down by the Central and State Governments and destroying the democratic spirit.
