AGRA: National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) chairman Ram Shankar Katheria has asked
Aligarh Muslim University authorities to provide reservation to SC, ST and
OBC students since it is not a “minority institution” and receives grants from the Centre.
After meeting
AMU pro-VC Tabassum Shahab on Tuesday, Katheria said if the university does not provide quota, the central grants it receives should be stopped. He said they has been given a month to prove that they are a minority institution.
Explaining their stand, AMU VC Professor Tariq Mansoor said the university is governed by AMU Act, 1981, which has granted minority status to it and minority institutes are exempted from Article 15 (5) which deals with constitutional reservation.
