Senior US official discusses Pakistan's commitment to eliminate all terrorist groups with civil and military leadership

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan's commitment to eliminate all terrorist groups present within its borders was discussed during a senior US official's meetings with the country's civil and military leadership, the US embassy said today.
Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Ambassador Alice Wells visited Islamabad this week.
She met with Finance Minister Shamshad Akhtar; Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua; Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Bajwa and Chief of General Staff Lt General Bilal Akbar.
She also met with business leaders and ambassadors of other nations in Islamabad.
"Ambassador Wells discussed Pakistan's stated commitment to eliminating all terrorist groups present within its borders, as well as our shared interest in building economic and commercial ties that benefit both nations," the embassy said in a statement.
Ambassador Wells' visit focused on the role that Pakistan can play in achieving a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Afghanistan, the statement said.
Army said in a statement that Ambassador Wells in her meeting General Bajwa exchanged views on issues of mutual interest, regional security and cooperation between both the countries.
