Man sought for impersonating police during attempted robbery

A man who allegedly fixed fake police lights to his car before pulling over another driver and bashing him is being sought by police.

The incident occurred on Wood Street in Preston around midday on June 9.

A 25-year-old man in his grey Holden Rodeo utility was driving west down Wood Street when he saw a car following close behind.

The car - a dark Commodore sedan - had fake police lights fixed to the dash. They were turned on by the driver and the victim pulled over, believing it was the police.

"The male offender got out of the vehicle and approached the victim while he was seated in the driver’s seat," a police spokeswoman said.

"He demanded cash before pulling him from the vehicle. Two further offending men approached the victim and all three punched and kicked the victim while he was on the ground."

The victim was left battered and bruised, receiving cuts to his face.

Detectives are now searching for the offender. An image of a man police wish to speak to has been released.

The man in the image is Caucasian, aged in his mid-30s, tall with a solid muscular build, and has spiky blond hair with an eyebrow piercing on his right eyebrow.
