‘Coop at your Doorstep’ launched

CUTTACK: Cooperation, Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Department Minister Surya Narayan Patro on Tuesday launched a district-wide campaign - ‘Cooperative at your Doorstep’ organised by Cuttack Central Co-operative Bank Limited here to create awareness on State Government’s initiatives for farmers in the cooperative sector. Inaugurating the campaign Patro told that development of agriculture and welfare of framers cannot be possible without strengthening of cooperative sectors.

The campaign, which will continue till July-end, will also help farmers get crop loan at one per cent interest from cooperative banks that distribute around 65 per cent of total crop loan in Odisha.While the cooperative sector in the State has set up a target to disburse loan to the tune of `12,700 crore to farmers at one per cent interest, it has set a lending term loan up to `1,000 crore during 2018-2019 financial year for which the farmers will no more have to deposit 10 per cent of the loan amount as initial deposit as the system has already been abolished, Patro said.

Presiding the meeting, president of Cuttack Central Cooperative Bank (CCCB), Birendra Pratap Swain the CCCB which has been serving farmers in undivided Cuttack, Jajpur, Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur districts through its 468 Cooperative Service Societies has excelled in farmers’ welfare activities.
