Judge recused from hearing Sasikala’s case

Justice Subramonium Prasad of the Madras HC has recused himself from hearing the decade-old `4.97-crore tax assessment case against V K Sasikala, who is currently in Bengaluru prison.

CHENNAI: Justice Subramonium Prasad of the Madras HC has recused himself from hearing the decade-old Rs 4.97-crore tax assessment case against V K Sasikala, who is currently in Bengaluru prison. When the matter came up before a division bench of Justices S Manikumar and Prasad, the counsel for IT department reminded the bench that the matter was related to Sasikala, who was defended by Prasad in the SC in other cases, when he was a lawyer. And the bench directed the Registry to place the matter before the Chief Justice for posting it before another bench in which Justice Prasad would not be a judge.
