Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in 2014 had announced setting up an agriculture university in the KBK region and it should be set up at Balangir, observed Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra while speaking to mediapersons here on Sunday.

“I have written a letter to the CM in this connection,” Mishra informed. For the benefits of youths of Balangir and neighbuoring districts, an engineering college should also be set up at Balangir, he opined.

He said the bypass road of Balangir town is one of the major issues which was even discussed in the State Assembly. After its foundation-stone was laid in 2001, it remained dormant till 2014.

As the land acquisition process started, some irregularities were noticed in the proposal submitted to the Center. The district Collector has been asked to look into the issue and submit a report. Whosoever has violated the provisions of land acquisition and rules of the Central Government, action should be taken against them after inquiry, Mishra demanded.

Besides, he reiterated that the Balangir Medical College should be named after renowned poet Bhima Bhoi.
