After three months, 12 Ganpatpura residents held for attacking cops

Vadodara: Twelve residents of Ganpatpura village, who were on the run after being booked for assaulting local cops in March, were nabbed by a Special Operations Group (SOG) of Vadodara rural police on Tuesday.
Police arrested Ajay Thakor, Mahesh alias Shankar Thakor, Mahesh Chavda, Bharat Chavda, Vindo alias Vilesh Chavda, Amarsinh alias Lalo Chavda, Mahendra Chavda, Ravi Thakor, Sunil Thakor, Sanjay Thakor, Dilip Thakor and Vijay Thakor while they were returning to their village recently.

A combing operation was conducted in Ganpatpura by the police after the attack on policemen from the Vadodara Taluka police station. Many residents had deserted the village after the incident.

On March 29, a group of residents from Ganpatpura village, which is notorious for illegal liquor dens, assaulted a team of cops which tried to stop the vehicle of a bootlegger near Dumad Crossroads. When the police entered the village, a mob resorted to stone pelting on the police vehicle which was damaged in the attack. The cops were further assaulted after they left the vehicle.

A police sub-inspector had fired three rounds in the air in self-defence when the mob surrounded and assaulted him.
