New Mustang Bullitt To Roar Up Goodwood Hill Along With Original

This year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed will see both the all-new Ford Mustang Bullitt as well as Steve McQueen’s 1968 Mustang GT Fastback, tackle the Hillclimb.

The new car pays tribute to its 60s predecessor, while also offering more power and more kit than your usual Mustang. Aside from its Dark Highland Green exterior, the new Bullitt also comes with 19-inch alloys, custom badge and red Brembo six-piston brakes up front.

Providing power is a 5.0-liter V8 engine, producing 459 PS (453 HP) and 529 Nm (390 lb-ft) of torque, with everything sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox. Its top speed is rated at 262 km/h (163 mph).

As for the 1960s original, its Goodwood appearance this year also marks its European debut. The car will be accompanied by its owner Sean Kiernan, and will drive up the hill, together with the all-new model, on all four days of the festival, July 12-15.

“We’re delighted to announce that these two incredible cars are making their Goodwood Festival of Speed debut and driving up the hill in front of fans,” stated the Duke of Richmond and Gordon, Goodwood FOS founder.

“Bullitt is one of the greatest celebrations of high-speed motoring in cinema history making the Festival a perfect home for the pair of Mustangs. To have the original icon joined by its modern day successor exactly 50 years later is a fantastic way to mark our own special anniversary.”

When Bullitt was filmed, two Mustang GT Fastbacks were used – one of them assigned to do stunts (ending up at a salvage yard), whereas the one driven by McQueen was sold by Warner Bros after filming was done. Its whereabouts remained unknown until it resurfaced when its owner decided to get in touch with Ford.
