Mysuru: Riding or driving at high speed on city roads will soon land offenders in deep trouble. Traffic cops have decided to crack down on speed-racers and wheeling. Cops have been directed to spot dangerous riding which could injure or main other road users.
The traffic department, through its campaign for Traffic Management and Road Safety Month which kicked off on Sunday, will track cases of freewheeling, racing and over-speeding every day. When cops nab offendes, the bikes will be seized.

Cops will also track down vehicles carrying long material, overloading in goods vehicle and those carrying excess passengers.

Police commissioner A Subramanyeswara Rao said, “Racing and free-wheeling have become rampant in the city. Cops will keep an eye on Mahadevpura, Nelson Mandela Road, Ring Road and Udaygiri where youngsters often race against each other. Youngsters who often indulge in these activities pose a danger to others as well as themselves.” Cops will also track down defective number plates and faulty silencers.

N Mahadevu, 24, a resident of Mahadevpura said, “On Manandwadi Road passing through Mahadevpura and JP Nagar, racing and free-wheeling is on the rise. While there is reckless riding, youngsters pose a threat to other road users. This move by cops will ensure safety.”

Sub-Inspector N Muniyappa said, “Traffic offences are rising in the city. The campaign aims at creating awareness. With various programmes scheduled, cases of drunken driving, driving without safety belts and without helmets will be booked every day throughout July.
