Barring a few States, monsoon has been well on course. The monsoon has covered the entire country, reaching Sriganganagar in western Rajasthan — its last outpost — a fortnight ahead of schedule, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

The IMD’s Chief Forecaster in Pune, D.S. Pai, said the monsoon’s journey across the country before time was not unusual. In 2015, the full coverage was reported by June 26 and in 2013, it was even earlier by June 16, according to Mr. Pai.

More rains expected

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in large parts of India, including serveral places in Jammu&Kashmir, Tamil Nadu, Assam and Gujarat over the next few days till July 13, 2018.

According to the IMD, heavy to very heavy rains at a few places, with extremely heavy rains at isolated places, are very likely over Uttarakhand and east Uttar Pradesh

The four-month monsoon season normally begins from June 1 and ends on September 30. This year, the monsoon touched Kerala on May 29, three days ahead of its normal onset date.
