Surat: Thousands of passengers at various railway stations in south Gujarat were stranded on Tuesday after several trains between Mumbai and Ahmedabad were either
cancelled or short-terminated following the collapse of a railway overbridge at Andheri station in Mumbai.
Official sources said that at least eight trains between Mumbai and Ahmedabad were short-terminated at Valsad, Dahanu and Vasai Road and were reversed to Ahmedabad. The timings of around 14 trains from Mumbai Central towards Delhi, Amritsar, Surat and Ahmedabad were rescheduled.
Five trains including including Valsad Memu, Mumbai Central-Firozpur Janta Express, Mumbai Central-Hazrat Nizamuddin were cancelled due to the incident. The Mumbai Central-Porbandar Express was run from Surat at 2 pm.
Sources said that many trains towards Ahmedabad and Mumbai were running late by almost two hours.
Commercial inspector, Surat railway station, Ganesh Jadhav said, “The work for clearing the debris is going on in Andheri. Passengers at all the railway stations in south Gujarat have been informed about the cancellation and short-termination of trains”
Jadhav added, “We had started a helpline number to assist the passengers.”
