PANAJI: The state government has decided to implement a road safety ‘curriculum’ in 100 schools across Goa to educate children about road safety. The pilot project will cover students from Class I to IX and will commence on August 1, it was decided at a meeting of the state road safety council on Monday.

Speaking to mediapersons after the biannual meeting — which was attended by representatives of PWD, traffic police, health department, Goa state pollution control board, collectors, etc — director of transport Nikhil Desai said that accident data has been compiled, and that the department expects a 15% reduction thanks to various measures the government has taken.

Desai said that the curriculum on road safety is being introduced for the first time in Goa, and that the state could be the first in the country to introduce such a plan. “Catching them young is the way ahead,” he said.
