Cops arrest one robber after exchange of fire in Vapi, 2 escape

Surat: Two robbers who fired two rounds at cops at Chanod of Vapi in Valsad district on Monday night managed to escape from the spot despite ‘nakabandhi’ at different locations. However, the cops were able to arrest one member of the gang from the spot and seized a car, which had been stolen, from his possession. Police too had fired two rounds at the robbers which helped them arrest Imran alias Raju Raees Qureshi, 22, a native of Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh.
Suraj alias Mama alias Raju Marathi Pravin Pawar, a resident of Chimalpada in Maharashtra, and his aide Ingadiya sped away in a car soon after a gun battle with the cops.

Police seized a Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire, a country-made pistol, five cartridges and some tools useful for stealing cars or carrying out loots from Qureshi. The worth of the valuables seized from him was put at Rs5 lakh.

The police on receiving specific information reached Shree Nathji Apartment in Chanod of Vapi. They found two vehicles in the parking area. When the police tried to arrest the robbers, they fired at the cops.

“The accused are hard-core criminals and wanted in several cases of loot and theft. Our team reached the spot on getting specific information but the robbers opened fire,” said Sunil Joshi, superintendent of police, Valsad. tnn
