GUWAHATI: A three-day summer camp for differently abled children is being organized at
Shishu Sarothi, a centre for differently abled individuals. About 60 differently abled children are attending the camp which began on July 1 and will conclude on July 3.
Samridhi, an organization run by mothers of differently abled children, is organizing the camp.
"Every year, summer camps are organized for children in different parts of the city. However, no one thinks of doing something similar for differently abled children who also need equal opportunities to enjoy and learn. This prompted us to organize this summer camp for such children at Shishu Sarothi for the first time," said
S Mahanta, secretary of Samridhi and also a mother of a differently abled child.
"During the camp, the children are being taught to do some physical exercises like aerobics. Materials are being provided to them and they are also being taught to try their hand at craftwork. This will also help them to develop talents which can help them to earn their livelihood later. We have also incorporated singing and dancing sessions so that the children can have some fun," Mahanta added. tnn
