Launch of Wi-Fi at 19 locations, Chief Minister’s award for outstanding projects by students and facilitating online payment for a range of civic services have been proposed as part of the government’s stated push to maximise use of IT in governance.
In his Budget for 2018-19, which was presented in the Assembly on Monday, Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy said websites for all government offices would soon become operational as per the Guidelines for Indian Government Websites (GIGW).
The government would institute a Chief Minister's award to be presented on Independence Day or Republic Day for best IT project by students, best department adopting IT initiatives and best Government College websites.
Work is in progress for introducing Online Service Management System (Manav Sampadha) aimed at digitising all service records of government employees.
Apart from launching Wi-Fi services at select locations in the Chief Secretariat and railway station as part of the CSR activities of RailTel, two villages are proposed to be adopted as ‘Digital Villages’.
Online payment services
Online payment facilities will be made available for a host of civic services in addition to electricity/water and house tax bills.
It is proposed to train 14,000 persons under Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Sakshrata Abhiyaan (PMGDISHA).
About 3,500 persons have got employment through job fair after imparting special training through Information Technology Department. The government will initiate an agreement with private companies to provide employment to not less than 200 IT qualified persons every quarter.
