D’nal ex-MLA nabbed from spa in Kolkata

The missing of former Dhenkanal BJD MLA Nabin Nanda on Saturday took a new turn of Monday and it was revealed that he was nabbed by police from a spa centre at Park Street in Kolkata in the day during a raid.

The Beniapukur police of Kolkata said they had raided the ‘All About Family Spa’ located in the posh Park Street area on the allegation of running a brothel in the guise of the massage centre, Nanda was caught along with sex workers and was charged under Section 120 (B) of IPC.

While at least nine sex workers were rescued from the spa, three customers including Nanda was taken into custody. A total of 18 people were held from the spot including the spa manager and owner of the building where the centre was running, added police.

However, later Nanda managed to get bail from a court. He refuted the allegations and said he had not gone to the spa with any wrong intention.

“I was out for shopping at around 7 pm on Saturday when I was pick-pocketed. As the miscreants snatched away my mobile phone and wallet, I chased them into the concerned spa and came in the clutches of a police team which mistook me for a customer,” claimed Nanda.

Later in the day, Nanda was suspended from BJD by party supremo Naveen Patnaik on the basis of the information about his condemnable action, according to a release issued by the party.

BJD spokesperson Samir Dash said it is true that Nanda was nabbed from a spa, which is a highly condemnable incident.

BJP spokesperson Pradeep Purohit said it ahowa the kind of people Naveen Patnaik has in the BJD. They are tarnishing the reputation of Odisha outside the State. It is highly unfortunate.

The Congress also said that it is an unfortunate incident and should be condemned.

Notably, Nanda, who had left for Kolkata on Thursday remained in contact with his family till Friday. However, his family members failed to contact him over phone since Saturday evening. Later, his son Sambit filed a missing complaint with police.
